Getting to the island and getting around

Ocracoke island is the true definition of an island. It is only accessible by boat and plane. There are 3 public routes to and from Ocracoke, the first being the Hatteras car ferry where passengers and their vehicles can come to and from the island During the summer season a passenger ferry is available which will dock directly at Silver Lake in the middle of town. These ferries are available on a first come first served basis and runs on a regular schedule every day.  The other 2 options are the Swan Quarter and Cedar Island ferries each running 2 times per day and require reservations. If arriving by air, there is a county air strip on the island. There is no fuel or tower services but there is a restroom and it is in walking distance to the beach and town. The Castle Inn can assist with arranging transportation for our guests.

Once on the island, there are several options for transportation around the island. Golf carts and bicycles are available for rent from several vendors on the island and there is a free public tram service  which runs during the season.
